Product Spotlight: Using Triple Scoop Music with Your Photography So I should go out and make a special purchase of a film camera because the digital film sims don’t quite get close enough, eh? Uh huh.Monthly news, direct from ON1 and ON1 Partners. Trying to simulate it is a waste of time. I'd rather start from somewhere provided (that has already had some effort put into into the process) that is close than make my own effort.ĭon't need to copy a film sim.If I want the sim.I shoot the film itself and scan it on my V700 and go from there. people have been trying for years to copy canon/nikon (etc. but have you tried to copy a film sim yourself? Some are easier than others obviously but some things (curves etc) are not so easy. I shoot film all the time and develop at home so I know that this simulation is not even the same as real film. Neoplan 400 is only a simulation of Acros pushed two stops but after you adjust in post it is never the same from your starting point. I think all toll I have five versions of TriX in my version of C1.ĭoes it matter?.anything that is on a computer program is really a simulation right? If you shoot 135 or 120 Acros you will know what that film is truly like. The only S/W I know of that reflects this and provides multiple versions of the simulation of B&W film is Capture One styles. For example TriX will be contrastly developed in HC110 but very smooth to even a little flat developed partial stand in 1:50 Rodinal. However, black and white film’s response is not only determined by the film it is also determined by the developer and development protocol. I’ve actually still have some in my freezer. Neopan 400 was a fairly thick emulsion film that gave a lot of latitude and flexibility. Neopan 400 and Acros 100 are totally different films. All the others, at least in Nik, start to raise the contrast by quite a bit. Ilford PanF 50 and Neopan Acros 100 are also lower contrast in Nik Silver Efex. Unfortunately, I don't see Agfa in the list of ON1. For non-contrasty emulations I have found Agfa in Nik Silver Efex to be very good. I don't have a lot of recommendations for you. any pointers on smooth, non contrasty BW film in your experience, Michael? I never really got into BW film in my early days.Īt least it would take 'some' guesswork out of my re-try I could go through them again when i get the time but. (I rarely use the word dramatic as it is usually over used and is subjective) but i didn't record the setting as i tried others in the 'testing'. I did some quick manual BW adjustments/conversions myself and it was ok but then and found a really good BW preset in the films section that 'seemed to my eyes' to give a very broad DR with incredible smoothness and kept sharpness!. is was experimenting with some BW presets on a relatively contrasty still life scene. In any event, this would be an ON1 preset (done to their liking) and would not be a reproduction of the the Fujifilm Acros film simulation. Neopan 400, according to some articles is not Acros and has differences compared to Acros 100 (besides ASA/ISO). What I've been able to find so far is that Acros is really Neopan Acros 100 film.
